HAPPY FRIDAY!

When people look back on 2011, they will undoubtedly realize that this was when the French Express label started making its move. American based, French Express are masters of tropical disco and future house, and home to the likes of rising stars Chris Malinchak, Jonas Rathsman, Moon Boots and Ponty Mython, good mates of ours Rainbows of Death, and of course, their leader, the man who started it all, the man who feeds The Magician all those amazing tracks for his Magic Tapes, the one and only Perseus.
Everything about Perseus’ tune-age is sexy. Big contender for our Remix of 2011 is his amazingly sublime take of Jeremy Glenn’s “New Life.” It’s a song you love instantly, and yet upon further listening, you find yourself drawn into the Summer of 1983… As infectious as it is mesmerizing, it found it’s way on to every mid-2011 mixtape. And with good reason!

Next came a delicious reworking of the Mark Ronson smash ‘Record Collection’ - We’ll let Mark tell you what he thought of it…

This week, in the spirit of giving and all things festive, Perseus kindly offered his latest “Russian Girlfriends EP” for F R E E… seriously, what a top fella. We’re torn between whether the Caribbean-influenced Cool Runnings or Ashanti-sampled Running Back To You is our favourite - I guess we can let you decide that one.
We recently caught up with one this years true taste-makers and asked him the really tough questions
THE BASIC INGREDIENTS:
MAIN COURSE:
1. What meal do you crave from home when you’re on the road?
Pizza, Chinese food and a glass of Tropicana. Call me simple - but that’s all i need for the rest of my life.
2. The best gig/show/party I’ve been to lately was…
Fred Falke… Absolutely bananas
3. What was the best meal you’ve eaten in Australia or overseas?
An authentic Shawarma in pita bread, turkey strips, french fries and vegetables doused in Tahini and Hummus, purchased for 10 shekels ($2.50) from a man in a hut
4. Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’m completely enamored by Luca C’s project, Infinity Ink, really stuck on Tiger & Woods’ lab files, and incredibly enjoying new Chris Malinchak material.
5. What does the next 6-12 months hold for Perseus?
Nice amount of tunes (originals, remixes, collaborations) and a string of many unique, enjoyable shows.
