Get Involved with KASTLE
It’s rare that we find ourselves loving everything about an Artist.
Let’s face it, when you work in the music industry it’s easy to find things to criticize or dislike - it’s simply, the nature of the beast. Now we could tell you we think KASTLE, aka Pittsburgh native (he now calls San Fran home) Barrett Richards, is the one of the most brilliant producers we’ve...

EAT HERE: Kings Lane Sandwiches
If you’re anything like me, you will love a good chicken schnitzel sandwich, and if you love a good chicken schnitzel sandwich, you have probably tried South Dowling Sandwiches’ version of the old classic (if not, shame on you, get of your arse and go do it to yourself, now). Without detracting from SDS’s version, which does and always will hold a special place in my heart,...

Friday Fun #15 - Nod One's Head (Berlin)
Few things can beat that feeling you get when you listen to a song for the first time and instantly, it grabs you. Straight away you’re in a groove… your head and shoulders bouncing… your feet tapping… and then, before you can control yourself, you’re up, out of your chair, busting out. That’s how we felt when we heard “Up” for the first time - the...

Simon Says.. Hit The Indie Button: Tiger Lou (SWE)
Tjena läget hur mår du? I should know more Swedish than that considering I’ve been best friends with a Swede for five years. Well, I know a couple more things, but basic anatomy only gets you so far.
While I might not have picked up much in the way of vocab, I have been able to get my ears onto some fantastic Swedish pop. I don’t feel as though I came into the friendship particularly green (after...

Friday Fun #14 - Mr Little Jeans
All you blog-heads out there have probably already heard the name Mr Little Jeans, and, like us, be pleasantly surprised to learn that she is Monica, a Norwegian 20-something who has been frequently been described as St Vincent meets Deborah Harry.
It’s safe to say that her rendition of Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” was the most talked about cover of 2011, breathing new...

It's a Slow Roast kind of Winter...
Thanks to the legends at Archery Club and Acclaim Magazine, Slow Roast Records honcho and pretty much the most amazing DJ we’ve ever seen, CRAZE is coming back to Australia for a doper-than-dope national tour this May / June. He’ll be joined by label-mate and one of the rising stars in the house world, CODES. For those who haven’t seen Craze in action before: a) were you born...

RIGHT! It’s my first post for F&T so might as well kick it off the best way I know how – with my favourite track at the moment (see here)
A$AP Rocky (photo by Ysa Perez)
I don’t care what people say about Swizz Beatz not being able to rhyme, his beats are insane and he knocked up Alicia Keys so in my eyes, the guy is a BAWSE. Plus having araabMUZIK on the boards is a major coup. Two of the...

Australia's Most Wanted 2012
We like lists. There’s something satisfying about crossing things off. Even better though are “wish-lists.” With Radiohead coming in November, and Prince about to announce he’ll be here in Sept/Oct (Holy Jesus), 2012 is already shaping up as a damn good year for music and touring.
That aside, we’re feeling greedy - so here are the tours we want the most in...

EAT HERE: Katsu Yachiyo (Surry Hills)
Food & Tunes inspired me to review a restaurant that I was fortunate enough to eat at last week. Having sourced inspiration from their blog, I felt a sense of duty to flick it over to Jess and Naany. Whether or not I was covertly trying to pinch a spot on F&T, I really just wanted to share the love. That’s the point; people should know when a restaurant (or bar or other) serves up...

Review - Scuba "PERSONALITY"
We are all unique. Or are we? Most people are fucking boring to be honest.
It’s a pretty bold opening statement to an album that is everything BUT fucking boring. For those not in the know, Scuba is Paul Rose, the genius behind one of the world’s premier underground labels, Hot Flush Recordings. Now these cats were churning out dubstep releases (Toasty, Search & Destroy and later...

Friday Fun #12 - Adana Twins
Isn’t there something soothing about listening to deep house when it’s raining cats and dogs? Almost makes you forget about all the chaos ensuing outside… on that note, may we introduce you to ADANA TWINS, two Hamburg lads doin’ their thang on tastemaker imprint Exploited.
It all started a few years ago when graphic designers Benni (the ‘energizer’) and Friso...

F&T Artist Interviews: XAPHOON JONES (USA)
Whether you know him as the producer/drummer of Chiddy Bang, that young kid making beats for hip-hop royalty (Kanye West, Big Sean, Beanie Segal) or the mastermind of mash-up remixes for Radiohead, Tinie Tempah, Grouplove, Rihanna, Passion Pit, Darwin Deez and a gazillion more artists, one thing is clear… Xaphoon Jones is the M.A.N… If like us, you’re lucky enough to know...

Beataucue bringing the Easter cheer...
Over the Easter long weekend (that’s a five day weekend peeps!) French indie-dance duo BEATAUCUE are making a pit-stop Down Under… and F&T couldn’t be more excited!
Taking their name from a colloquial slang that’s too naughty to mention (look it up if you must!), Alexis & Mederic, both in their early 20’s, made a mark on the electronic scene in Europe in...

Simon Says.. Hit The Indie Button: Slow Club (UK)
Slow Club’s ‘Yeah So’ made a lot of 2009’s ‘Best Of’ lists, well at least the ones I was reading. It was definitely one of my favourites that year. The reviews floating around were all very positive, but I have to admit it took me a while to get fully into the record. It was a post by the lead singer of one of my favourite bands, saying that Rebecca’s voice was the best female vocal he’d heard...

F&T Artist Interviews: LANCELOT (SYD)
We have emerged from the haziness of a sun-drenched Sunday afternoon at Ivy Pool… a little bleary eyed… but very satisfied… all thanks to Lancelot.
Plain & simple - Lancelot is a star-in-the-making. In a few months, he’s already established himself as the “one to watch” in 2012. Already boasting a list of remixes that would set any indie-chin wagging...

This Friday Fun is all about the remix, and damn there are some tasty ones going around at the moment.. All on the house/disco/electro/ambient tip there should be something here for everyone.

Coffee, Tea & Me - Redfern
We love coffee, we love it a lot. We drink it every day… Religiously. In fact, we don’t know how to start the day without one. So when starting a new job means you need to find a new coffee spot, it’s always great when that search proves to be easy and worthwhile.
Located on the bustling and allegedly ‘up and coming’ (we might need a little more convincing of...

Lemme Buy You A Drank: Vietnamese Soda Chanh...
No visit to our favourite dodgy Pho joint/s would be complete without a lemon soda.. It’s pretty much the most refreshing thing in existence, a cross between a traditional style lemonade/pub squash but lighter (i.e. less sweet/sugary). The perfect lemon soda has crushed ice and we like to add extra lemon juice at the end to taste.. Oh and you must garnish with a lemon wedge. Perfection!
